Wireless Priority Service

WPS is a wireless calling feature that gives approved customers higher priority during times of wireless network congestion. WPS service provides the benefit of a higher probability of call completion in the event of a national disaster or emergency for approved agencies that must have critical communications capabilities.

During periods of heavy network usage, WPS provides end users with the ability to have their call placed into a queue for the next available wireless voice channel ahead of end users not subscribing to WPS.

WPS is managed by the National Communication Systems (NCS). You can find out if you are eligible to receive WPS by visiting the NCS’s website at www.wps.ncs.gov. NCS, part of the US Department of Homeland Security, reviews all requests for service and assigns a priority level to approved users. If approved, you will receive an email and a welcome packet from NCS informing you that the feature will soon be activated on your phone. NCS forwards all approved WPS requests to Alltel, who will then add this service to your phone(s). If you are not approved, you will receive a notification from NCS informing you that you have not been approved, and you will be asked to contact NCS if you have questions

Alltel Wireless makes no assurances regarding waiting times associated with WPS, nor can Alltel Wireless ensure that WPS calls will be connected. WPS is subject to the terms and conditions of your customer agreement and calling plan. WPS functions on a limited portion of the Alltel Wireless owned and operated CDMA network, and is available only to individuals authorized by the Office of the Manager National Communications System (NCS). WPS does not apply to data services, pre-paid, Alltel Touch2Talk (2 way walkie-talkie service) or GSM networks. PRIVACY NOTICE: Alltel Wireless is required to and will share information about your WPS Access usage and account status with the NCS and its authorized agents.
