Analog, TDMA networks to be retired in 2008
An important network change is coming- we want your business to be prepared.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has ruled that wireless companies may retire their analog networks in 2008. As a result, Alltel and most major carriers are changing to an all-digital network. By March 31, 2008, we will complete the transition to all-digital service in your area. Although it is not affected by the regulation change, support for TDMA technology (an outdated form of digital service) will also end during Alltel's network transition.
To continue service, you may need new equipment.
Analog and TDMA-only equipment (such as a phone or other wireless device) will no longer be compatible with Alltel's advanced all-digital network. After March 31, 2008, lines of service using analog or TDMA equipment will not be able to send or receive calls in your area. If you haven't replaced your equipment in the last few years and you don't see a "D," "EV" or "1X on your phone's display, there is a possibility that you may need to replace your equipment.
Why digital?
Providing customers with the best wireless service is our top priority. Analog and TDMA technology can no longer help us deliver that promise. Advanced digital technology offers important benefits such as more secure calls, better call quality, longer battery life and faster data downloads. Plus, they provide access to advanced features that can make your wireless service work harder for you.
